GAH!

We're a week away!!!!!

Week Two

The cast has really pleased me this week. They are memorizing/ have memorized their lines like nobody's business and they are really adhering to their blocking. I am so excited for this show.

I worked on our "cave" Thursday morning-afternoon, the end result being what you see in this photo.... Obviously it doesn't really look like a cave... YET. I have ideas and plans. :o)

Actually, this week I feel that my brain may explode. Driving home last night I had a panic attack when I realized we open on the 30th, which is only a few weeks away. The tiny slice of brain matter that controls my logic tells me that I panic with every show and that I have plenty of time to get things accomplished. I'll still panic up 'til the 30th. SO, this week I need to figure out costuming needs, props, finish the "cave" build rolling flats to represent the "temple," set my lighting scheme, and figure out any special effects I want to use. I also need to find some sound cues. I think it is time to delegate......

More information!!!!!!! YAY information!

Hello all! Well, after much mulling, discussion, and debate, I have figured out the dates for BOTH children's shows for this coming season... Magic Flute Audition dates are 6/18 at 9 am and 6/20 at 6:30 pm Show dates are 7/29-7/31, 8/5-8/7 I originally said the production dates would fall on the first two weekends of August, but have to make alterations. :o) Don't forget that the script is still at the Pickaway County Library for perusal. Everyone interested in auditioning must have a monologue prepared and must be prepared to read (everyone who is interested must be able to read.) Everyone must bring their known scheduling conflicts for the summer with them so I can schedule accordingly. After we cast the production, I will form the schedule and email the cast and crew.  I am very excited to get started on this production.  Keep this in mind....... Magician's Nephew Auditions 12/3 at TBA (am) and 12/4 at TBA (PM) Show dates are 2/17-2/19, 2/24-2/26

Magic Flute!

I got the scripts today! One of my favorite parts of the rehearsal/production process is cracking open that cardboard box and seeing all of those scripts stacked neatly, knowing that in a few weeks they will belong to my cast... :o)
This is the email I sent out to parents and students today.... Can't wait to get started on this one.

Hello all!

I am so excited to announce this summer's production! I will be directing the Magic Flute, a non-musical, kid friendly version of Mozart's famous opera. As RTP had to reschedule the final production for this season, I am tentatively scheduling auditions for June 18th and 19th. The production will go up August 5, 6, 7, 13, 14, 15. Rehearsals will most likely be Mondays-Thursdays, 4:30-6:30, with some Saturday rehearsals.

I will have a copy of the script at the Pickaway County Library on Court Street in Circleville. tomorrow afternoon til June 18th for perusal. You cannot take this copy out of the library but can read it there.

For more info about the production check out this link: http://www.dramaticpublishing.com/p913/The-Magic-Flute/product_info.html and make sure to keep an eye on the blog: http://rtpchildrenstheatre.blogspot.com as I'll be posting more things there. :o)

Summer 2011

OOH! I'm am so pumped about this show I can't stand it!
This is a non-musical, condensed version of The Magic Flute for kids! WOOT! I've got big plans for a set, costumes, crazy awesome makeup, and (if all goes according to plan) I'm going to get some dancing involved from the Charmion Performing Arts Center..... heh.

There is more to come.....

Reflections....

Another show is over. Another cast bade fond farewells to the RTP stage. This production brought a lot of new faces and new lessons for both the cast and myself. I discovered how truly amazing kids are when you give them the challenge of Shakespeare's language. I love the children of RTP. Every show brings me a new appreciation for theatre and for children. Although I am a bit exhausted from directing for now, I look forward to finding another stellar script for a summer show.

Brush up and Pre-Second Weekend

Tonight was brush up. We went with a somewhat serious run through for brush up tonight. I figured with all of the kids and most of them being new or unfamiliar with the stage, we didn't need to take a chance in causing any disasters this weekend do to shenanigans during brush up. The actors did well and are enthusiastic about their second weekend. We'll see how they feel come 5:30 tomorrow.

BTW, I can't believe I am almost done with my fifth children's show. I can't believe I've directed six show in two years. At least I think it's been six shows...

I mean, I started working on Treasure Island in 2008 and then it went up in 2009. Then I had the summer show, Wizard of Wonderland. After that I started working on Kidsummer Night's Dream which went up this past February. And then there was this past summer's show, All I Really Need To Know I Learned By Being in a Bad Play. While performing in Richard III and working on this show (Hamlet or Does Father Reeeeeeally Know Best?), I directed Home for Columbus Civic. My goodness. I must be insane.
